You will need to understand the processes of production, distribution, marketing and exchange within the contemporary media industry. This includes audience consumption and the relationship between audiences and institutions.

You should also be familiar with:

i) Issues raised by media ownership in contemporary media practice

ii) The importance of cross media convergence and synergy in production, distribution and marketing

iii) The technologies that have been introduced in recent years at the levels of production, distribution, marketing and exchange

iv) The significance of proliferation in hardware and content for institutions and audience

v) The importance of technological convergence for institutions and audiences

vi) The issues raised in the targeting of national and local audiences (specifically, British) by international and global institutions

vii) The ways in which the candidates’ own experiences of media consumption illustrate wider patterns and trends of audience behaviour

You will illustrate this with CASE STUDIES e.g. FILM

Northallerton case study will be FILM – e.g. Eon Productions - the James Bond franchise. Production, distribution, exhibition and consumption by audiences. This includes a study of contemporary distribution practices (digital cinemas, DVD, downloads etc).
