| Coursework
Coursework is set via an assignment
that you will be given. Each assignment will have a specific
hand in date. If you miss the deadline your work may be marked down
for failure to keep to deadlines and manage your planning effectively.
Only in exceptional circumstances will work be accepted late and in
that case a renegotiated deadline will be set. A letter will
then be sent to your parents.
When you are given an
assignment you will also be told what evidence you need to provide to
get each grade or number of points. It is then up to you to
collect that evidence and show where it is in your coursework.
All of your assignments
will be assessed according to exam board standards. The standard
is set out carefully and precisely in the assessment grid for each
unit. This is available to you to see and use and can be found
in the syllabus document for each unit. Your
tutor will follow the assessment grid precisely, and the assessment is
cumulative. That is to
say, where evidence for a particular level is missing, then this will
determine the eventual grade. For example, if you provide all the
evidence for the ‘A’ grade criteria but none for the ‘C’ grade
criteria, then the you will be awarded a grade of ‘D’ because you
have not accumulated all the evidence for grades ‘C’ and ‘B’,
and so can not be awarded an ‘A’.
As a result it is in your interest to consult carefully the
assessment grid and also to plan assignments so that complete coverage
is achieved.
