July 28 – Austria- Hungary declares war on Serbia.
July 30 – Russia begins to mobilise.
July 31 – London Stock Exchange closed.
Aug 1 – Germany declares war on Russia
Aug 2 – Germany invades France.
Aug 4 – Germany invades Belgium. Britain declares war.
Aug 8 – British expeditionary force lands in France.
Sept 6 – Battle of Marne begins
Sept 15 – Battle of Aisne begins
Sept 24 – Trench warfare begins.
Oct 29 – Turkey enters the war.
Nov 5 – Britain declares war on Turkey.
